Wrought Iron Garden Gate

Circa early 19th century.

Size 98cm wide x 1.7m high.

This wonderful wrought iron garden gate from shortly after the turn of the century.

Skilled Blacksmiths would have manufactured this garden gate. The metal is heated to 1500 degrees and pounded into shape repeatedly until perfect. The most elaborate designs were poured into sand casts and allowed to set,  the  Blacksmiths would then weld and hot rivet the parts together to make the gates you see here, just as they saw them around 100 years ago!
