Antique Folk Art Pottery
Circa 20th Century.
Size 22cm high.
A great looking piece of antique pottery.
European in origin, with a Turkish/Ottoman influence.
This pot is lead-glazed earthenware and often gets mistaken for majolica, however in practice this slipware is decorated with a mix of oxides and painted on coloured glaze over a light ivory slip.
These ‘Bucket-pots’ were common in mainland Europe but only turn up in the South-West UK. The form is designed to carry liquid easily as with the metal or wooden equivalent.
Beautiful patina suitable in the home or garden.
